Let's take a look: Met Gala's Black Dandyism-Inspired Looks

Welcome to the "Let's take a look" section of the blog.

One of the most prestigious events in the fashion world, the Met Gala took place in 2025 with the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." This theme draws inspiration from the exhibition of the same name, which will be on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute from May 10 to October 26, 2025. Both the exhibition and the gala explore the role and cultural influence of Black dandyism and tailoring in the formation of Black identity, from the 18th century to the present day.

This year, the dress code was announced as "Tailored for You." This rule encourages attendees to wear custom-made outfits that reflect their personal style.

The gala featured some stunning costumes. Let’s take a look at the best-dressed of the evening.

Zendaya
Zendaya, a Met Gala staple, was stunning in a white zoot suit. While simpler than in previous years, she still managed to turn heads. The wide pants, sharp lines, and dramatic hat, paired with red nail polish and a sparkling engagement ring—she didn’t disappoint this year either. Her stylist, as always, was Law Roach, and her suit was a Louis Vuitton design by Pharrell Williams!

Rihanna
Rihanna, who announced she was expecting her third child on this special night, looked amazing in Marc Jacobs. The look had a masculine vibe but was undeniably feminine. Bold and daring, it was definitely one of the most beautiful looks of the night, in my opinion.

Chappell Roan
Making her Met Gala debut, Chappell Roan confidently stole the spotlight! Her bright pink patchwork outfit, featuring an exaggerated collar and feathered cape by Paul Tazewell, made her look like a disco goddess. A bit theatrical, lots of fun, and plenty of pink—just perfect for Pink Piece!

Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina was so bold and daring... She wore a burgundy Louis Vuitton tuxedo bodysuit and took to the red carpet without pants! I think a mini skirt or fitted pants in the same fabric would have created a more cohesive look, but she still pulled it off with confidence.

Joey King
Joey King attended the Met Gala for the first time this year, but it felt like she’d been a regular for years! Her shiny green Miu Miu ensemble, with rhinestone details and a golden turtleneck top, was dazzling. She definitely caught everyone’s eye and radiated energy! She’s certainly in my top three!

Jennie

Jennie was as understated as ever but still captivating. Her black-and-white Chanel dress gave her an elegant and refined look. The strapless cut, pearl details, and minimal chicness made her the perfect "Chanel girl."

Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian teamed up with Chrome Hearts this year and wrote the book on gothic fashion! The crocodile-skin-like fabric, sharp shoulders, and metal details created a bold, edgy aesthetic that was hard to ignore.

Charli XCX
Charli XCX, in an Ann Demeulemeester design, was screaming "I’m not ordinary!" Her feathered top and sheer skirt made her the epitome of a gothic princess. Dark, free-spirited, and incredibly unique...

Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid turned heads in a gold sequined Miu Miu gown. The dress was inspired by the lines of 1940s designer Zelda Wynn Valdes, blending the glamour of the past with modern elegance perfectly. Gigi’s vintage-style hair and graceful silhouette added another level of sophistication to her look.

There were many other looks worth discussing, but these were the ones that really caught our attention. This year’s Met Gala was quite satisfying, with most attendees adhering to the theme. I’m already excited for next year’s gala!
